WATERMELON
It is under the hot sun of Pachino where the unmistakable Crimson Sweet watermelon matures, having a round shape, a peel with dark green streaks and a shining red pulp which is juicy and very sweet.
Characteristics
The watermelon plant requires a temperate-hot climate which is not excessively humid and which can adapt itself to moderately loose-packed soil, rich in organic substances, and deep clay terrain as well.
The Crimson Sweet variety watermelon is available on the market from May and, owing to its high water content, it possesses a remarkable thirst quenching quality.
Consumption
Besides being eaten normally, the watermelon could be used to prepare fruit salads, marmalades, jams and sweets. Owing to its high water content (more than 95 grams for every 100 grams of the product), the watermelon possesses a remarkable thirst quenching quality.
This fruit besides performs good diuretic action. In cosmetics, the pulp is used to prepare refreshing and moisturising masks; the juice is instead used as an ingredient of skin softening lotions
