GIALLETTO MELON
The gialletto melon (literally, yellowish melon) is a variety of melon which is very fleshy and juicy, has a yellow peel and a very savory pulp. The melon is not only one of the tastiest summer fruits but it is also rich in beneficial properties.
Characteristics
Being slightly laxative, the gialletto melon is refreshing and has few calories. It is suitable for anaemics owing to the presence of iron and diabetics in that its sugar content is not too much compared with that of water.
Besides its high water content, which is good for its thirst-quenching quality and helps preventing dehydration, it contains a high percentage of mineral salts and vitamins A and C. It is useful to harden and reinforce the skin, is a source of phosphorous, magnesium and potassium, helps regenerate mineral losses in sweat, and favours the elimination of toxins and thus also combats cellulite.
Consumption
Fresh or added to a jar of yoghurt, the melon is recommended owing to its low calorie content to persons on a slimming diet. It is often served as a starter along with ham, but also as a dessert, such as with Port wine.
